Welcome to the Welf Chronicles In this Crusader Kings II chronicle, we are following the exploits of Count Konrad Welf of Troyes and his descendants. If you are new to the series, it begins with 1. Introduction Last time ( 4. War Never Changes ), our first son Maurice was born and our liege lord, Charles II of West Frankia, died suddenly at the age of 46. This time, we are going to start off the new reign with a presentation of our new liege, Louis the Stammerer, and a proper introduction to a couple of the other major lords of West Frankia. We might have lost our job as Spymaster and the Hood that goes with it, but at least we get to show off our hair for a bit. With a new reign, it is a good time to introduce, reintroduce and catch up on some of the important players in West Frankia. My new Liege Lord is the unfortunately named Louis the Stammerer. He is just 26, a mere few years older than myself and has been spending the last few years of his father's reig...

Welcome back to the Welf chronicles In this Crusader Kings 2 chronicle, we are following the exploits of Count Konrad Welf of Troyes and his descendants. If you are new to the series, it begins with 1. Introduction Last time ( 3. The First Year ), we started the timer, actually fell in love with our wife, got involved in a few wars and ended the first year eagerly awaiting the birth of our heir. 24th of March, 868: After a grueling 4 month siege, Bari has fallen, and the Italian branch of the Karling Dynasty has taken the province for its own. 25th of April, 868: The siege of the rebels in Anger, opposed to Duke Hugo of Anjou, has ended with the fall of the castle. Hugo decides to keep the spoils of the rebels to himself for now. Unfortunately, Hugo controlled the siege, and therefore gets the spoils. Welcome back to the Welf Chronicles In this Crusader Kings 2 chronicle, we are following the exploits of Count Konrad Welf of Troyes and his descendants. If you are new to the series, it starts with 1. Introduction Last time ( 2. Strategic Overview ), we finished up initial setup by arranging marriages and giving tasks to council members. This time, it's time to start the clock! 12th of January, 867: The young Irish scullery maid Ben-Muman arrived at my court and our marriage was completed with all due fanfare. I decided to ask my generous vassals to help pay for the celebrations. Over the following week, several of my courtiers, including brother Rudolf, also entered into their matrimontial bonds. I also decided to work towards improving my Martial skill. The choice is between prestige and cash, and while we currently have negative prestige from marrying a commoner, we still need the cash more at the moment. After completing the Marriage ambition, I decided that ...

Welcome back to the Welf Chronicles In this Crusader Kings 2 chronicle, we are following the exploits of Count Konrad Welf of Troyes and his descendants. Last time ( 1. Introduction ), we introduced the realm and characters of the County of Troyes. This time, we will talk more about early decisions and strategy going forward. Since both me and my brothers had yet to wed and the court included many an unmarried man, i made it my ambition to get married, and a great procession was sent out across Europe to locate suitable spouses. Across the entire Karling empire, very few noble families had daughters of marriable age. No great alliances seemed possible, but that was when we started to look to the lower classes. One of the problems with starting in 867 is that most of the characters are auto-generated and that very few noble families are fully populated, often only with the title holder, as is my case. Historically, this would not be very likely in this age, but that is t...

Welcome to the Welf Chronicles Inspired by the great Crusader Kings Chronicles at PC Gamer ( Irish and Norse ) written by T.J Hafer, we are going on another trip back through medieval history. This blog will use a similar format with flavorful description in normal text and strategic meta context in cursive . If you are not familiar with Crusader Kings II or its mechanics, I encourage you to read T.J.'s Chronicles first, as he explains how the game works, which I will not go into in this playthrough. The game is played on patch 2.0.4 with Sword of Islam, Legacy of Rome, The Republic, The Old Gods and Sons of Abraham, as well as a bunch of portrait packs. We will, of course, start in 867 at the dawn of the Viking era. The game will be played in Iron Man mode, which means that all decisions are final, but also unlocks achievements. I have also decided against using the character creator, but will instead find a suitable nobleman to start with. We will start with intro...
